Meditatively detailed and deeply imaginative, Yuko Shimizu’s art is fierce, packed with action but painted in calming Japanese art style and colour palette. From dreaming to be a Manga artist as a child to effortlessly creating her own vocabulary, Shimizu transitioned into an artist after more than a decade in a corporate job. Stepping over her fears and inhibitions, she attended an art school at 34, with 18-19-year-old students. Given a chance to do it all over again, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Today Shimizu has illustrated for the biggest publications, events and exhibitions in the world.
